A joint coope\u00adra\u00adtion bet\u00adween Zat\u00adtoo and West\u00adfa\u00adlen\u00adWIND now shows that cli\u00admate-fri\u00adendly strea\u00adming is pos\u00adsi\u00adble. Through the wind farm ope\u00adra\u00adtor\u2019s green IT pro\u00adject wind\u00adCORES, the TV strea\u00adming pro\u00advi\u00adder Zat\u00adtoo is brin\u00adging its data centre directly into a wind tur\u00adbine. As of today, the first con\u00adtent from the TV strea\u00adming pro\u00advi\u00adder is run\u00adning via this inno\u00adva\u00adtive data centre. Zat\u00adtoo and West\u00adfa\u00adlen\u00adWIND are taking on a pio\u00adnee\u00adring role with this joint coope\u00adra\u00adtion. As far as is known, this pro\u00adject is uni\u00adque worldwide.<\/p>\n

Glo\u00adbal CO2 emis\u00adsi\u00adons are rising con\u00adti\u00adnuously and inter\u00adnet use is also con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adting more and more to this. Strea\u00adming ser\u00advices, cloud appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons and video con\u00adfe\u00adren\u00adcing are also being used more and more. This is made clear not least by the cur\u00adrent Corona situa\u00adtion. Even though many data cen\u00adtres are alre\u00adady ope\u00adra\u00adted in an energy-effi\u00adci\u00adent way, there are still a lot of CO2 emis\u00adsi\u00adons from the ongo\u00ading operation.<\/p>\n

At Zat\u00adtoo, one of the lar\u00adgest TV strea\u00adming pro\u00advi\u00adders in Europe, more than 80 mil\u00adlion hours of TV con\u00adtent are strea\u00admed per month. More than five mil\u00adlion giga\u00adbytes of data are exch\u00adan\u00adged bet\u00adween users and the data centre every day. At Zat\u00adtoo alone, this con\u00adsu\u00admes around one mil\u00adlion kilo\u00adwatt hours of elec\u00adtri\u00adcity per year, the pro\u00adduc\u00adtion of which usually gene\u00adra\u00adtes CO2. Zat\u00adtoo is the\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfore alre\u00adady working on a solution.<\/p>\n

With the wind\u00adCORES pro\u00adject of the wind farm ope\u00adra\u00adtor West\u00adfa\u00adlen\u00adWIND from Pader\u00adborn, Zat\u00adtoo plans to ope\u00adrate its own data centre directly in a wind power plant in the future. After a test phase, the first con\u00adtents of the TV strea\u00adming pro\u00advi\u00adder are run\u00adning via this inno\u00adva\u00adtive data centre as of today. With this, Zat\u00adtoo not only uses green elec\u00adtri\u00adcity from wind energy for the dis\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtion of TV con\u00adtent, but also places its own data centre directly in the wind tur\u00adbine, i.e. where the elec\u00adtri\u00adcity is generated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith wind\u00adCORES, the wind tur\u00adbi\u00adnes are put to ano\u00adther sus\u00adtainable use. In this way, we can recon\u00adcile the incre\u00adasing demand for energy due to incre\u00adasing digi\u00adta\u00adli\u00adsa\u00adtion with the energy tran\u00adsi\u00adtion,\u201d says Fiete Dub\u00adberke, Mana\u00adging Direc\u00adtor IT at WestfalenWIND.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea of brin\u00adging com\u00adpu\u00adting capa\u00adcity clo\u00adser to clean energy gene\u00adra\u00adtion while tap\u00adping into still unu\u00adsed space capa\u00adcity is so simple and obvious and, from our point of view, a pro\u00adject that will hop\u00adefully set a pre\u00adce\u00addent. We want to con\u00adsis\u00adt\u00adently become a sus\u00adtainable com\u00adpany and encou\u00adrage others to join in,\u201d says Ste\u00adfan Lietsch, Chief Tech\u00adno\u00adlogy Offi\u00adcer at Zat\u00adtoo and respon\u00adsi\u00adble for the project.<\/p>\n

At the end of 2020, Zat\u00adtoo\u2019s first ser\u00advers moved into the wind tur\u00adbine at West\u00adfa\u00adlen\u00adWIND. In this first phase, some important tests were first car\u00adried out on Zat\u00adtoo\u2019s sys\u00adtems and pro\u00adces\u00adses. This mor\u00adning, the first ser\u00advers were then put into ope\u00adra\u00adtion. In the next phase, Zat\u00adtoo wants to find out whe\u00adther wind\u00adCORES can meet the com\u00adpany\u2019s own high stan\u00addards of sta\u00adbi\u00adlity and relia\u00adbi\u00adlity. This is extre\u00admely important for Zat\u00adtoo, as a pro\u00advi\u00adder of live tele\u00advi\u00adsion, to ensure that its own ser\u00advice can be used around the clock. Gra\u00addu\u00adally, Zat\u00adtoo plans to run more and more con\u00adtent via the data centre in the wind tur\u00adbine. As the first strea\u00adming pro\u00advi\u00adder in the world to move its ser\u00advers into a wind tur\u00adbine, Zat\u00adtoo is ente\u00adring com\u00adple\u00adtely new ter\u00adri\u00adtory with this pro\u00adject. If the expec\u00adta\u00adti\u00adons for the pro\u00adject are ful\u00adfil\u00adled, Zat\u00adtoo plans to make the wind tur\u00adbine the main loca\u00adtion for its own data centre in the future.<\/p>\n
