West\u00adfa\u00adlen\u00adWIND IT Mana\u00adging Direc\u00adtor Dr Fiete Dub\u00adberke was cor\u00adre\u00adspon\u00addin\u00adgly deligh\u00adted when he held the cove\u00adted tro\u00adphy in his hands at the award cerem\u00adony. \u201cThe fact that we were nomi\u00adna\u00adted twice in our first par\u00adti\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adtion in the DRZP and won a vic\u00adtory and a second place at the same time is alre\u00adady over\u00adwhel\u00adming \u2014 thanks to all supporters!\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Ger\u00adman Data Centre Prize was awarded in five cate\u00adgo\u00adries this year. In the cate\u00adgory \u201cIdeas and Rese\u00adarch around the Data Centre\u201d, the new con\u00adcept \u201cWind\u00adCORES++\u201d for cloud hos\u00adting was the winner.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

For this inno\u00adva\u00adtive pro\u00adject, West\u00adfa\u00adlen\u00adWIND IT has been working clo\u00adsely with Dr Gun\u00adnar Scho\u00adma\u00adker from the Soft\u00adware Inno\u00adva\u00adtion Cam\u00adpus Pader\u00adborn (SICP) and many sup\u00adport\u00aders since 2014. \u201cWit\u00adhout access to this long-stan\u00adding coope\u00adra\u00adtion bet\u00adween busi\u00adness and sci\u00adence, Wind\u00adCORES would not have come into being at all,\u201d says Dub\u00adberke. In this con\u00adtext, his thanks also go to an important imple\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion part\u00adner of the first pilot \u2014 the dtm\u200b.group. The idea behind \u201cWind\u00adCORES\u201d is as simple as it is effi\u00adci\u00adent: to build elec\u00adtri\u00adcity-inten\u00adsive data cen\u00adtres where the elec\u00adtri\u00adcity is pro\u00addu\u00adced in a cli\u00admate-fri\u00adendly way \u2014 con\u00adse\u00adquently also in wind energy plants. \u201cIt is won\u00adderful to see when inno\u00adva\u00adtive solu\u00adti\u00adons for exis\u00adting and future fields of appli\u00adca\u00adtion grow out of rese\u00adarch ideas,\u201d says Dr Scho\u00adma\u00adker from the SICP. The pilot that won second place has alre\u00adady been run\u00adning suc\u00adcessfully for over a year in a wind tur\u00adbine near Lich\u00adtenau in the Pader\u00adborn district.<\/p>\n

For a fur\u00adther appli\u00adca\u00adtion, West\u00adfa\u00adlen\u00adWIND IT is now working tog\u00ade\u00adther with the inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnally active equip\u00adment sup\u00adplier Rit\u00adtal: Maxi\u00admi\u00adsing the foot\u00adprint for ser\u00advers in wind tur\u00adbine towers is the goal. The new con\u00adcept shows how up to 50 racks can be instal\u00adled in a sin\u00adgle wind tur\u00adbine. Sys\u00adtem hou\u00adses and medium-sized cor\u00adpo\u00adrate cus\u00adto\u00admers can use this capa\u00adcity for their own IT systems.<\/p>\n

The 16-mem\u00adber expert jury of the Ger\u00adman Data Centre Award was par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlarly impres\u00adsed by the com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion of eco\u00adno\u00admic effi\u00adci\u00adency and sus\u00adtaina\u00adbi\u00adlity in a sin\u00adgle con\u00adcept. This is because Wind\u00adCORES uses over 90 per\u00adcent wind power and avo\u00adids the con\u00adsump\u00adtion of addi\u00adtio\u00adnal resour\u00adces. By instal\u00adling them in wind tur\u00adbi\u00adnes, exis\u00adting buil\u00addings, infra\u00adstruc\u00adtures and power grids are used.<\/p>\n

The vision of the makers of West\u00adfa\u00adlen\u00adWIND IT is to bring sus\u00adtainable energy pro\u00adduc\u00adtion and digi\u00adta\u00adli\u00adsa\u00adtion into harm\u00adony \u2014 not only in East West\u00adpha\u00adlia, but in Ger\u00admany and Europe. This path offers an inno\u00adva\u00adtive solu\u00adtion for future-ori\u00aden\u00adted fields of appli\u00adca\u00adtion such as con\u00adnec\u00adted dri\u00adving, Indus\u00adtry 4.0 or the Smart City.<\/p>\n

The barely dis\u00adcus\u00adsed incre\u00adasing energy demand of digi\u00adta\u00adli\u00adsa\u00adtion is one of the major socie\u00adtal chal\u00adlenges. The elec\u00adtri\u00adcity demand of the inter\u00adnet alre\u00adady accounts for 7 % of glo\u00adbal elec\u00adtri\u00adcity con\u00adsump\u00adtion. In data cen\u00adtres, energy accounts for an average of 40 % of total ope\u00adra\u00adting costs. Due to the direct sup\u00adply of wind power, the elec\u00adtri\u00adcity costs at Wind\u00adCORES are signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly below the mar\u00adket average.<\/p>\n
