windCORES Receives the Datacenter Strategy Award

The team at Paderborn-based WestfalenWIND IT GmbH & Co. KG has every reason to celebrate once again: Their windCORES have been honored with this year’s Datacenter Strategy Award. This prestigious industry award recognizes innovative approaches and strategies in data center operations and is presented during the expert conference of the same name, the Datacenter Strategy Summit.

windCORES was nominated in the “Sustainability” category and apparently provided exactly the right answer to the industry’s most pressing question at the moment: How do we reconcile the massive expansion of IT infrastructure required by AI applications with the issue of sustainability? During his short presentation, windCORES Managing Director Dr. Fiete Dubberke impressed the audience with his unique concept of data centers in wind turbines and won over the audience in the subsequent public vote.

“This award is a special recognition from the community and shows that our solution is viewed as sustainable IT among experts,” Dubberke said with delight at the high-profile awards ceremony in Bad Homburg, explaining that the wind turbines not only provide sufficient space for the servers but also supply the electrical infrastructure, fiber-optic cabling, and green electricity directly from the wind turbine above. “Here, state-of-the-art data center technology and sustainability are uniquely combined,” said Dubberke, summarizing the innovative windCORES concept, which has been implemented in wind farms in Lichtenau.
